Humanities Working Groups Deadline: Ongoing

About: Faculty, graduate students and undergraduates are invited to apply for awards of up to $5,000 in matching funds to support symposia and small conferences that showcase and promote scholarship and research in the humanities. Funds may be used toward honoraria (up to a limit of $750 per person), travel expenses of the participant(s), publicity costs, technical expenses, and rental of space. Potential applicants are urged to discuss their proposals in advance with a member of the Glasscock Center Advisory Committee.

Eligibility: Applicants should verify that there are no conflicts with the dates of major Glasscock Center events by checking with the Center's web calendar prior to the submission of an application (the Center will not fund events that conflict with our Book Prize Lecture, major symposia or lectures). In order to be eligible for funding, events must be free and open to the public. Preference may be given to individuals who have not received funding under this program in the last two years and to events held on the Texas A&M University campus. Requests to support events scheduled for the semester in which application is made will not be considered.

Deadline: 5:00 p.m., 15 April 2010
Events supported during this cycle of applications must take place after 1 September 2010.

About: Faculty, graduate students and undergraduates are invited to apply for grants to support speakers of pre-eminent interdisciplinary reputation beyond a single field, whose presence on campus will both promote the humanities and contribute broadly to the intellectual community. (Applications for support of other speakers may be made under the Glasscock Center's Co-sponsorship Grant Program.)

No single award will exceed $5,000 and up to five grants are given each academic year. Funds may be used toward honoraria (up to $1,500 per person), travel expenses of the participant(s), publicity costs, technical expenses, and rental of space. Applicants are expected to seek funding from other sources besides the Glasscock Center. Potential applicants are urged to discuss their proposals in advance with a member of the Glasscock Center Advisory Committee.

Eligibility: Applicants should verify that there are no conflicts with the dates of major Center events by checking with our web calendar prior to the submission of an application (the Center will not fund events that conflict with our Book Prize Lecture, biennial conferences, or other major lectures).

Humanities Working Groups

About: The Glasscock Center encourages interdisciplinary research and scholarship by providing up to $1,500 in annually renewable support to self-constituted groups of faculty and students engaged in exploration of thematically related research questions in the humanities. These groups may designate themselves working groups, research clusters, reading groups, study seminars, or the like. Participants share the goal of stimulating intellectual exchange through discussion, writing, viewing, reading, and other activities that further their inquiries into common scholarly concerns. The Center makes space available for the meetings of these groups. Information about existing humanities working groups can be found here.

Each working group submits an account of its activities and a request for renewal at the end of the academic year. We ask to be informed of grants or publications that derive from or are influenced by individuals' experiences with these groups. Working groups are expected to meet or hold events a minimum of twice a semester. Any media purchased using these funds (such as books or DVDs) remains the property of Texas A&M University and should be donated to the Glasscock Center Library once they have been used by the working group.

Eligibility: The Glasscock Center requires that working groups make annual public calls for membership to the university community and assists with these calls.

Deadlines: The Center considers applications for Working Group recognition throughout the year.
