Undergraduate Research Award

Awards of up to $500 each are made annually in support of research in the humanities by undergraduates at Texas A&M University. This call goes out each fall and spring.

Olivia Abernethy, Class of 2009, English, will explore the influence of the Beat Generation on minorities--women and African Americans, focusing on Amiri Baraka (aka Leroi Jones), Bob Kaufman, Anne Waldman and Diane di Prima.

Ambyr R. Acton, Class of 2009, English, will present her research paper on the rise and fall of anti-sweatshop movement and possible reasons for its sudden disapperance in the media and newspapers at the Southern States Communication Association's Annual Undergraduate Honors Conference.

Rosi A. Rodriguez, Class of 2008, International Studies, will compare bilingual users of Spanish and English with monolingual counterparts and examine ways in which structural properties of a language may affet how users of the language perceive reality.
